How do we situate ourselves in nature?

Isn’t nature always an object of human constructions and projections?

These questions arise particularly in the artificial idyll of the Museum Insel Hombroich.

In Japanese, “Kiwa” refers to both spatial boundaries and threshold moments in the process of change.

In her Kiwa project, artist and designer Tomoko Mukai uses this term

to explore the boundaries and transitional spaces between human-made and natural environments.

Since 2019, Mukai has been creating installations and platforms

for interdisciplinary dialogue and encounters in this context.

In her work, she looks for ways to intensify the experience of our environments and expand our everyday lives.

In the Labyrinth, as part of summer program at the Museum Insel Hombroich,

she is now presenting a changing two-week installative experiential environment

in which natural objects that she carries from the island into the exhibition space enter into a constellation with her aphoristic texts.

Performances by artist Sachiko Nagata with hamon percussion instruments will take place on weekends,

exploring the spaces between music and art.

Wie situieren wir uns in der Natur?
Ist Natur nicht immer auch Gegenstand menschlicher Konstruktionen und Projektionen?
Diese Fragen stellen sich besonders in der künstlichen Idylle des Museums Insel Hombroich.
„Kiwa“ bezeichnet auf Japanisch sowohl räumliche Grenzen als auch Schwellenmomente im Prozess des Wandels.
Unter diesem Stichwort erforscht die Künstlerin und Gestalterin Tomoko Mukai in ihrem Kiwa-Projekt
die Grenzen und Übergangsräume zwischen menschengemachten und natürlichen Umfeldern.

Seit 2019 entwirft Mukai in diesem Rahmen Installationen und Plattformen für interdisziplinären Dialog und Begegnungen.
In ihrer Arbeit sucht sie nach Möglichkeiten der Intensivierung der Erfahrung unserer Umgebungen und
nach der Erweiterung unseres alltäglichen Lebens.

Im Labyrinth schafft sie nun im Rahmen des Sommerprogramms des Museums Insel Hombroich.
eine sich wandelnde zweiwöchige installative Erfahrungsumgebung,
in der Naturobjekte, die sie von der Insel in den Ausstellungsraum trägt, mit ihren aphoristischen Texten in Konstellation treten.
An den Wochenenden finden Performances der Künstlerin Sachiko Nagata mit Hamon-Schlaginstrumenten statt,
in denen die Zwischenräume zwischen Musik und Kunst erkundet werden.
